TYSON GAY READY FOR LONDON OLYMPICS TRACK & FIELD WITH 100M WIN

Tyson Gay tuned up for his Olympic showdown with Jamaican stars Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake with victory over 100m in the Diamond League meeting in London Friday.

In three weeks time just across the British capital, the American will be hoping to cross the line first again in the 100m final, but will be hoping to avoid the damp and cold conditions that all the sprinters faced at Crystal Palace.

The 29-year-old American came surging through to win in 10.03 seconds into a headwind, with Ryan Bailey second and Nesta Carter in third.

Carter’s Jamaican teammate Asafa Powell pulled out before the start of the meeting to rest an injury.

“I feel pretty good with the win. The weather wasn’t that bad, it’s very important to acclimatise and the weather helps me prepare mentally for the Games,” said Gay.

“I’m in pretty good shape — I want that Olympic gold,” he added.

Gay is the second fastest man in history behind Bolt, who suffered a surprise double defeat of 100 and 200m in the recent Jamaican trials.

In other action, home hope Mo Farah stormed to victory in the men’s 5000m with a blistering final two laps to win in 13 minutes 6.04 seconds.

The 29-year-old is the reigning world champion over that distance but hoping to double up in the 10,000m at the London Games.

He finished clear of Australia’s Collis Birmingham and Moses Kipsiro of Uganda.

The men’s 110m hurdles was won by American Aries Merritt with a superb season’s fastest time of 12.93 seconds in the testing conditions.

Merritt, the winner of the U.S. Olympic trials was set for a showdown with Liu Xiang, who had won his qualifer in impressive style, but the Chinese star pulled out of the final with a bad back.

Puerto Rican Javier Culson beat British world champion Dai Greene in the 400m hurdles, but in the women’s equivalent there was home success as Perri Shakes-Drayton stormed to victory in 53.77 seconds, a personal best.

Kenyan star Vivian Cheruiyot underlined her gold medal credentials with a fine win over 5,000m in 14 minutes 48.86 seconds.

JUSTIN BIEBER HANGS WITH MAYWEATHER AND MIKE TYSON–GET’S CHIN CHECKED!

Justin Bieber may be hanging around boxing champs like Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson, but he was no match when it came to a glass wall.

On Thursday, Bieber was performing in Paris and when he walked off the stage in-between songs he ended up walking into a glass wall. The Biebs was a little disoriented, but finished the show. When he got back to his dressing room, the pop star passed out. Bieber suffered a concussion, but his rep tells HLN “he’s fine.”

THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL

“I believe that love that is true and real creates a respit from death. All cowardice comes from not loving or not loving well, which is the same thing. And when the man who is brave and true looks death sqaurely in the face, like some Rhino hunters I know or Belmonte, who is  truly brave, it is because they love with sufficient passion to push death out of their minds until it returns as it does to all men. And then you must make make really good love again”

The quote above is from the film ‘Midnight in Paris’ by Woody Allen. I came home early yesterday evening because I injured my right hand while sparring yesterday. I sprained the knuckle on the middle finger of my right hand as I threw a punch. I felt it happen, but continued for a few more rounds and even did a few rounds of drills. The fact that it happened to my middle finger made me happy because it meant that I landed the punch correctly.  When I was finished and pulled my right glove off, my knuckle had swelled up to more than twice it’s normal size. This injury is very painful, but quite common for fighters. It’s hurts like hell to open my hand and typing this blog is extremely difficult, but I have to suck it up in order to remain consistent with my blog.

This leads me to the topic of my post today. My blog today is about consistency. Come what may, the key to success in any field is consistency. Due to the fact that my hand was injured yesterday, I decided to make it a movie night. I chose ‘Midnight in Paris’ by Woody Allen. I’m usually not an Owen Wilson fan, but he was perfect for this role. Watching him in this film made me feel as though I was watching a younger, better looking Woody Allen with all the characteristic neurosis to boot. Great casting! If there were a picture next to the definition of consistency in the dictionary, Woody Allen’s would be it. When you watch a Woody Allen film, you are guaranteed an amazing story, a great cast and beautiful shots in each and every scene. He can shoot a film in London, on a dark, dreary winter day, and make it look beautiful. I have seen several Allen films and I’m yet to be disappointed. THAT MY DEAR FRIENDS, IS CONSISTENCY. I had visited Paris a few years ago and was not a big fan, but the color Woody Allen created with ’Midnight in Paris’ was so beautiful that I wanted to go back Paris.

I work hard to maintain a similar level of consistency with everything I do, be it blogging, staying in shape as a male model and for life in general, and boxing. This is the only way to truly be the best. STAY CONSISTENT MY FRIENDS!!!

WOULD YOU KISS A TROLL TO GET ON TV?

Yesterday was a very busy day. Due to the fact that the 2012 New York Golden Gloves tournament is in full swing, I have been busy helping to make sure that my friends who are fighting are very well prepared. That includes sparring with them, coaching and giving motivational speeches. Yesterday was no exception. I woke up early and headed to the boxing gym to help out a friend who is actually fighting later tonite. Later on in the day, I had a sparring session set up with me and another friend who fights next week. We ended up sparring and working on drills for 8 rounds. We then got out of the ring and did some strengthening exercises. When that was done, I had to run over to meet with Ulises, my writing partner. We had to go over the edits in the second draft of a screenplay we worked on together and then register it. We will be hosting a reading of the screenplay soon and you will be invited.

I came home, tired as hell and plopped down on the couch, ready to watch some TV to  help me decompress. As I was flipping throught the channels, I came across ABC’s The Bachelor. This is a show that starts out with 25 attractive women vying for the love and ultimately, marital bliss with one man; the bachelor. I think of shows in the past such as, ‘Flavour of Love’, ‘Rock of Love’ and ‘I love New York’. I wonder what the motivation is behind people who come on TV to find love. I know the producers are motivated by money. ‘Flavour of Love’ was VH1′s highest rated show for the first few seasons. The amount of advertising revenue that these shows bring in is nuts! Within 5 minutes of watching the contestants being introduced, a bunch of them start crying and proceed to fight with each other over a guy or girl that they don’t even know. The amount of crying that goes on in these shows, both male and female, makes me wonder whether the contestants are doing so because they lost love or the fact that their 15 minute window of fame is shutting faster than the legs on a nun.

Just as in other romantic-duel shows, there was a lot of crying going in The Bachelor. I decided to write about the show, so I did further research online to get more information about the show. What I was exposed to was much more crying. I realized that in all the years that the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises have been on TV, there has never been a black bachelor or bachelorette. Hmmmmm….Black people need love too or should I say black people need fame too. Unfortunately, that is not what this post is about though. Just something for you to think about while you go about your day. We’ll keep that topic for another conversation.

I believe that the girls were crying because they had to kiss and throw themselves at a dude who they wouldn’t even look at twice on the street. He would not even get the time of day, let alone see that chick, Courtney’s boobs.  This dude looks like Rafa Nadal’s uglier, much less manly, brother. Flava Flav and ‘New York’ were both trolls as well. The girls on The Bachelor must have been thinking, “Damn, I kissed him, I let him touch my body and I don’t even get a rose? What is my life coming to? My life is over?” Booo hoo hoooooo!!!!!” This is obviously one man’s opinion and as I said in a previous post, ‘Opinions are like assholes, everyboy has one’.

Be that as it may, there has to be something said about how far people would go for fame. This begs the question, Would you kiss a troll to get on TV? The question should actually be would you kiss a troll, fight with other girls or guys, swim in mud, and drink bull semen for a chance at fame and fortune? Jennifer Hudson’s husband allowed ‘New York’ to call him ‘Punk’ on the love-duel show, ‘I Love New York’. It paid off because Jennifer Hudson saw love through all of his buffoonery. And now he is paid!!!!!!!!!

GIVE ME COMPETITION OR GIVE ME DEATH!!

Last night, I hung out with friends for the super bowl. The game was between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. It was the second meeting between the quaterbacks, Eli Manning and Tom Brady. It was also a a battle between the minds of the coaches – Tom Coughlin of the Giants and Bellicheck of the Patriots. The Giants won the previous meeting in 2007. I was hoping that Tom brady would win and enter the history books as the greatest ever. Unfortunately, Brady’s receivers did not share my vision. They were dropping balls as though they were burning hot potatoes on the field. The sure handed Wes Welker could not hold on to a pass that hit him in his hands. He was amazing in the regular season, but choked when it mattered the most. His drop changed the nature of the game.

The nature of some of these drops is the topic of my blog today. Many athletes are not able to perform when the bright lights are burning down. When the stakes are the highest. Many choke. This raises the argument regarding whether Eli is just lucky or is he a guy that just raises his game when the stakes are the highest. Eli has now beaten Tom Brady and Patriots, two times in a row. When the Giants win, there is always some lucky play. Some lucky catch. But then, for there to be a lucky catch, there has to be a great throw. Once again, last night was no exception. Big throw and an even greater catch brought about a first down for the Giants and the subsequent crushing of the New England Patriots. The Patriots on the other hand looked great all season, but didn’t look as sharp last night. Tom Brady was the only player that raised his game to super bowl status. He was able to switch to a higher gear, but his teammates couldn’t.

I liken this situation to many fighters who are called ‘gym fighters’. They look amazing in the gym, but when the lights are on, the crowd of strangers is calling for blood, when it’s truly real, they choke. I’ve seen it so many times. I’m going to the New York Golden Gloves tournament as a spectator this year and I’m sure I’ll see many of these choke artists. You see them in the locker room hyperventilating, throwing up and damn near peeing on themselves. Everybody gets nervous. This is brought on by the uncertainty of the unknown. Every time you go into that ring as a heavyweight, it might be your last. You can’t make a mistake. One clean punch from a heavyweight could change your life. But yet we do it because competition is that important to us. We would rather die than face the fact that we can’t ever compete again. It’s not a feeling everyone has. It is impossible to measure how much testosterone or competitive gene causes us to crave it to so much. Many people do not understand it. Michael Jordan continues to seek avenues where he can get his fix of competition, but can’t find it. He has tried baseball, golf and racing bikes. None of them match the competitive payback that playing basketball at the highest level gave him.

When does it end? I truly believe that as long as testosterone runs through the veins of men and women like me, we will continue to seek out competion. Even if it means our death.

IT’S SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AND I DON’T GIVE A DAMN WHO WINS!!!

It’s super bowl sunday!!! The Giants fought hard to make it to the super bowl and the Patriots did too. Brady or Manning…Manning or Brady…hmmmmmm…I don’t really care wins. Brady has more super bowl wins than Manning. I just want to watch a good, hard-fought football game. I love football, but I’m not a team guy. My sport of boxing is a one person sport. I can’t depend on my teammates if I happen to have an off night.

Honestly speaking, Eli Manning for some reason will never get the respect that his big brother Peyton has. A lot of it has to do with the fact that  his father strong armed a couple of NFL teams to help get him to the Giants. Eli was mediocre at best early on in his career. His father helped coach him and in order to get him to become an NFL quaterback. After he got on the Giants, there had always been an air of luck in everything that has come his way as a quaterback. His lucky streak was apparent in Manning’s ‘lucky-escape-scramble’ and the ‘lucky’ catch by Tyree during the Giants super bowl win. Tom Brady has been the man for a long time. I’m tilting towards the Patriots winning because of Brady’s mental strength and also because I’ve worked with both of his baby mamas, Gisele Bundchen and Bridget Moynahan.

For the super bowl today, I will be hanging out with a group of friends at a house party in NYC. That will be a lot of fun. As I mentioned earlier, I love football. It’s very fast and just like boxing, it has a lot of hard hitting and is very violent. The athletes in both boxing and football have to be sharp or else you’ll get hurt. The danger in the game of football, is what makes it so exciting to watch. Super bowl sunday is a lot like Thanksgiving day. This is a day for friends and family to get together for an American tradition. There will be tons of wings, pizzas and sodas consumed on this day. There are also football games played on Thanksgiving day, but the stakes are not nearly as high. Any chance to get together with loved ones is always good.

I had a tough sparring session yesterday with one of my friends who is getting for this year’s Golden Gloves boxing tournament. We did at least six rounds of hard sparring at Mendez Boxing. When we were done with sparring, I went over to Peak Performance NYC to do my strength training. I was able to push hard on both workouts and today I’m going to go for a short run. That way I can feel free to eat.

THE WORLD IS FULL OF EXCUSES, BUT NOBODY IS LISTENING

THE WORLD IS FULL OF EXCUSES, BUT NOBODY IS LISTENING. This was a my quote that my dad would say to my brothers and I when we would bring home a bad grade or if failed strive to our fullest potential. We would give all kinds of reasons why we didn’t achieve the best result and he would sit there, with this look on his face and say “The world is full of excuses, but nobody is listening”. I hated that quote. As I got older, I realized that the quote was true. Nobody was listening. Everybody has got their own problems and do not have time to hear why you didn’t succeed.

I had a photo shoot yesterday. I had an idea for a series of images that I wanted to create and called on my photographer friend, Jadee, to shoot it. I like working with Jadee because he gets my vision. I can tell him what I see in my head and he can bring it to life. Many photographers cannot get out of the way of the creative process. They would rather do it their own way instead of collaborating with the model in order to produce the best image. I will put the images up shortly.

While on the shoot, I had a chat with one of the younger models on set and it went like this - Younger model(YM)- Are you a boxer? Me- Yes, I am.(YM) What gym do you train out of? Me-Mendez boxing. YM-Why don’t you train at Gleason’s gym in Brooklyn?. Then I looked at him. That was the question that most people ask when they have no belief in themselves. They ask this question because they believe that the gym you go to will make you a better fighter. Very wrong! When I started training at Mendez boxing gym, it was new and nobody had heard of it. People questioned why I went there. I did so because it was quiet and I could think and work without some idiot trainer trying to tell me all the things I was doing wrong. But then after me and a few of the fighters started winning Golden Gloves, everybody wanted to come and train at Mendez. I ecouraged him to become be a leader and pave the way and not follow.

The younger model then asked me if I lifted weights. This is another question asked by people who don’t want to work hard. If you want to box for fun, then it’s ok not to work extremely hard. But if you want to fight, you better train every muscle in your body. It is life or death in that ring. When I’m in the ring, I’m looking to break every bone in my opponents body. If I can hit them and make them explode into a million tiny little pieces, I would. If you don’t have muscle to protect your bones and your organs, you will get killed in there. It is not a joke. All the great fighters lifted weights. Mike Tyson, Roy JOnes Jr., Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquaio, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins; they all lifted weights. Bernard just won a world title a few weeks ago, at the age of 46. He beat a champion who was 18 years younger than him and made the champion look like a beginner. You can’t do that if you don’t strengthen your body by lifting weights. Bernard trained his butt off in order to make this happen. He did not make excuses. You know why?…

BECAUSE NO BODY WAS LISTENING!!
