RUNNING GETS YOU RIPPED! THE BEST RUNNING SHOE FOR YOUR FEET AND WHY

Ngo Running at Peak Performance

RUNNING GETS YOU RIPPED!!! Contrary to what many people may say, I am living proof that running burns the most calories, helps with weight loss and wll bget you lean. When boxers and wrestlers need to lose weight and get to their fighting weight, what do they do; THEY RUN!!! Running is tough and not everybody can do it. Before you embark on a running program, be sure to consult a physician.

Before you get out there and start running, you must make sure that you have the proper equipment. YOU MUST HAVE PROPER SHOES IN ORDER TO PREVENT INJURY!!! To figure out what type of running shoes you should buy, you first need to know that kind of feet you have. A knowledgeable salesperson at a running specialty store can help you find the right running shoe for your foot type, but you can also figure out what type of foot you have on your own. One way is to just look at your foot. A more accurate method is to examine your footprint by either running in the sand or on paper with wet feet.

There are three different types of feet:

Flat Feet

If you’re looking at your foot, you’ll know you have flat feet if you don’t see any arch. The bottom of your foot, from your toes to your heel, is completely flat. If you do the footprint test, your print will look like a foot-shaped blob. You won’t see an inward curve from your big toe to your heel.

Problem? If you’re flat-footed, you’re most likely an overpronator, which means that your feet roll inward when you run.

What to Buy: You will probably need a running shoe that maintains your stability. Look for the words “motion control” and “stability” on the box of running shoes you are considering. In addition to motion-control shoes, some flat-footed runners also need to wear orthotics (custom-made shoe inserts that correct foot issues).

High-arched Feet

You should be able to easily determine if you have high arches — you’ll notice a high and definite arch on your foot. If you do the footprint test, your print will curve inward, making the middle part of your foot look very skinny. When you push your hand against the bottom of your foot, your arch will stay rigid.

Problem? If you have high arches, you probably supinate or underpronate, which means your feet roll outwards as you run. It’s very important that runners with high arches periodically re-measure their feet because running will cause their arches to gradually fall, making their feet longer.

What to Buy: You need to look for flexible running shoes with a soft midsole that absorbs shock. When buying running shoes, look for options with the words “flexible” or “cushioned” included in their descriptions.

Neutral or Normal Feet

If you’ve examined your foot or your footprint and it doesn’t look flat-footed or high-arched, you most likely have a neutral or normal foot. Your footprint will have a noticeable curve inward, but not by more than 3/4 of an inch.

Problem? As long as you pick a running shoe that doesn’t counteract your foot type, you shouldn’t encounter any problems. This is the most common type of foot, and it’s also the least susceptible to injury provided it’s outfitted with proper footwear.

What to Buy: If you have normal feet, you can choose from a wide variety of running shoes, including ones made for neutral runners or those with slightly flat-footed or high-arched feet. Don’t pick running shoes that have a lot of stability or motion control.

TIME MAGAZINE 2012 PERSON OF THE YEAR: BARACK OBAMA

Barack Obama Time 2012 person of the year

Barack Obama Time 2012 person of the year

President Barack Obama has been named Time’s Person of the Year.

Managing editor Richard Stengel unveiled the magazine’s choice on Wednesday’s “Today.” He said it was remarkable that the president won two terms with over 50 percent of the popular vote as a Democrat. He also noted that Obama took office in an economic crisis, and credited him with creating a new political “alignment like Ronald Reagan did forty years ago.”

This is the second time that Time has chosen Obama. The magazine said it named him Person of the Year in 2008 for winning against the odds and becoming the first black president of the United States.

“For finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union, Barack Obama is TIME’s 2012 Person of the Year,” Stengel explained in his note this year

CHECK ME OUT AT THE NIKE #MAKETHERULES EVENT IN NYC!!!

Check me out at the Nike, Make The Rules event at Pier 46 in NYC, today. It was a beautiful day to workout outdoors and I’m always up to try new things. The sky was clear and blue (as you can see in the picture to the right) and working out by the water was amazing.

The class was led by Lacey Stone and co-starred Holly Rillinger. Everybody showed up with great attitudes and Lacey as usual did not disappoint. Everybody had a blast. I need to get my hands on those new shoes that Lacey had on…hint….hint….I was one of the very few guys at the event. I must say that it was a tough workout. Go Lacey!!!

I’LL BE HANGING WITH ICE-T AT THE PREMIERE OF HIS FILM, “THE ART OF RAP” ON JUNE 12th

I just got word that I will be a part the festivities at the premiere of Ice-T’s documentary “Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap on June 12th. I’ll be posting pictures and video from the red carpet and inside the party. Read more about the film…

As he prepares for the June 15 theatrical opening of his documentary “Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap,” Ice-T promises that the campaign “won’t end with this film.”
“We’ve got a DVD. We have a television show. We have a soundtrack album,” the rapper told Billboard.com before a suburban Detroit screening of the film, which was attended by fellow MCs Chuck D of Public Enemy (who Ice-T had joined on stage the previous night at the Movement Electronic Music Festival), D-12′s Denaun Porter and Trick Trick. “I’ve got 52 (MCs) in this movie, and I have at least an hour to an hour and a half of in-depth interviews. I’ve got, like, two hours with KRS-One. So the film will just be the first embodiment of ‘The Art of Rap,’ but I don’t want to promote our secondary plans and take away from the film. I want people to see it on the big screen, hear it with the big speakers and take that ride.”

Ice-T spent two years working on “Something From Nothing,” chatting with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Run-DMC, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kanye West, Grandmaster Melle Mel and scores of others about the actual crafts of rapping, rhyming, composing and sound generation. “In my 25 years of rapping, no one ever asked me how I did it,” explained Ice-T, who licensed more than 400 songs for the film and commissioned Smooth Hustla to compose the original track “109 MCs.” “People would always be more concerned with the beefs, the cars, the girls, the celebrity side of it, but not how it’s done. To me that meant people thought you just s*** it out. There’s no creative process. There’s nothing to it… But some of these cats, it’s like very intricate wordplay, and they have their own ways to do it. I tried to get people who spoke on all the different styles of rap — the underground battle rappers or the conscious rappers. There’s lots of different styles.”

In addition to a list of 15 standard questions, Ice-T also asked each of his subjects to bust an original rhyme for the cameras, yielding stunning, off-the cuff performances whose lyrics often reflect on the craft and on what rap means to them. “What made this movie so special is Ice is alongside the person he’s interview, so he’s navigating the audience and he’s navigating the artists and the rappers and he’s doing a great job on both sides of the coin,” Chuck D noted. And Ice-T said his friendships with the subjects allowed him to cut deeper than the standard interviewer.

“By me knowing each one of these artists I had the ability to get, like, that Barbara Walters interview,” he explained. “I could get them into a place where I’m like, ‘That’s bulls***, man. Come on! I was there.’ ‘Ohhh…You want the REAL?’ and they start giving it up. Some of the best stuff is just wild stories — you would’ve never expected the KRS story about [how] he started rapping, or Run telling me what it’s like being on the top. It’s crazy.”

“Something From Nothing’s” official premieres will take place June 5 in Los Angeles and June 12 in New York. Ice-T predicted that “this is going to be a word-of-mouth film. We’re promoting it like a record rather than a film like…’The Avengers,’” but he’s counting on a substantial hip-hop fan base and a cross-generation appeal to bring people to the theaters.

“Almost every artist in this movie sold a million records, so in the hip-hop community we haven’t gotten one bad review,” he said. “I believe there’s a huge adult hip-hop audience that’s dormant, that wants to show their kids what they went through and wants to take them back and say, ‘This is when we wore Adidas.’ I’m hopeful those people will bring their kids. I really think this could do a Michael Moore thing. This could just swell and be bigger than a normal documentary. That could really happen.”

Meanwhile, the “Something From Nothing” official soundtrack is set to hit stores on June 12, with 23 tracks set to include live acapella performances from KRS-One, Immortal Technique, Ras Kass and Ice-T himself.

CHA CHING!! “THE AVENGERS” TOPS $1 BILLION AT THE BOX OFFICE

In just 19 days, flying faster the speed of a speeding bullet,  ”The Avengers”  has reached the billion-dollar mark at the box office. The superhero blockbuster took in $103.2 million to lead for a second-straight weekend, raising its domestic total to $373.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The Avengers” was the first movie ever to pull in more than $100 million domestically in its second weekend, passing the previous best of $75.6 million for “Avatar.” The film also topped $300 million domestically Saturday after just nine days in release, beating the previous record set by “The Dark Knight,” which hit that mark in 10 days.

Already the year’s biggest hit worldwide, “The Avengers” is on the verge of passing “The Hunger Games” at $386.9 million to become the top-grossing film domestically for 2012.

With $95.4 million more overseas, “The Avengers” lifted its international receipts to $628.9 million and a worldwide haul of just over $1 billion, only 19 days after it began rolling out in some markets.

“You never think that it can happen this quickly,” said Dave Hollis, head of distribution for Disney, whose Marvel Studios unit produced the ensemble film after a long buildup in its solo superhero outings. “You hope you can get to this day, and the fact that it is happening this early is a testament to a lot of work that went in on the Marvel side over the last six years to get us to a place where people wanted to see the Avengers assemble.”

Revenue for “The Avengers” was off just 50 percent from the film’s domestic debut of $207.4 million the previous weekend, a remarkable hold given how big it started.

THE HELP VS DOWNTON ABBEY…WHO WINS?

Who wins? With all the intense fire that Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer have come under for playing maids in the hit movie, ‘The Help’, I thought about another show with tons of maids in it, ‘Downton Abbey’. The series is set in the fictional Downton Abbey, the Yorkshire country house of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants during the reign of King George V.

I created this image by placing actors from both productions in one scene. Will we be happy with this picture?

YOU WANT IT, YOU GOT IT…FIRST OF MANY VIDEOS IS HERE!!!

I was up again late last night editing this video that I have attached to this post. I edited it on Windows Movie Maker. It’s amazing what great videos can be created using this simple program that comes with every PC. I use it to edit all my videos. The best thing about it is that it is free!! I bought a new FlipHD camera to shoot the videos. It’s crazy what this little camera can do. It shoots full HD.

Last week, a friend of mine, Jay Wright, the Owner of The Wright Fit asked me to come over to his office and test out the new Woodway Curve treadmill. The CURVE  treadmill burns up to 30% more calories than conventional motorized treadmills  because the user is actually powering the running surface, thus engaging more  muscle groups and achieving a superior workout. Research studies have proven  that users are able to reach similar cardiovascular exercise levels and caloric  burn walking on the CURVE treadmill in comparison to running on conventional  motorized units. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A POWER SOURCE. Talk about going green!

CLICK TO VIEW THE VIDEO – NGO OKAFOR WORKOUT TRIAL ON THE NEW WOODWAY CURVE

I worked up a ridiculous sweat within the first few minutes of running on the treadmill. I ran on it for 20 minutes and felt as though I had run for 30 minutes. I was drenched. My heart rate was up for several minutes after I stopped running which shows that the upward curvature of the machine, which forces you run up hill, builds muscle.

Look at my shirt at the end of my run. It was hard to talk at the end of the run.
