RUTH THALIA SAYAS SANCHEZ, PERUVIAN REALITY TV SHOW CONTESTANT FOUND DEAD

A Peruvian reality show has become part of a real-life crime drama as authorities investigate the slaying of a contestant who appeared on the program.

Police found Ruth Thalia Sayas Sanchez’s body Saturday, more than two months after the 19-year-old’s on-air confession that she worked in a nightclub and twice accepted money for sex.

Investigators uncovered evidence of poison in her body and signs that she was strangled, Peruvian Attorney General Jose Pelaez told reporters.

Authorities accuse her ex-boyfriend of killing her because he felt he was entitled to some of the 15,000 soles ($5,700) she won on the show, according to police accounts reported by local media.

Sayas was the first contestant on “The Value of Truth,” which features participants answering tough questions about their personal lives in front of an audience and loved ones. Before appearing on the show, contestants are subjected to a polygraph test to verify their responses.

Pelaez said investigators were looking into the role the show could have played in Sayas’ death.

“The investigation will determine whether there is some degree of responsibility, even though it seems to me that it would be a responsibility that would not have a causal relation,” he told reporters.

The teen’s family has said the show did not cause her death.

“This television program has absolutely nothing to do with it,’ said Freddy Sanchez Rojas, Sayas’ uncle.

On Sunday, the president of Peru’s Radio and Television Advisory Council cited Sayas’ death as she called on media in the South American country to more closely monitor the contents of their programs.

“I think there is a marked tendency in our media to convert strong and difficult news into a show so everyone can see it. There is a concept of information and news that goes against the very people covered within the report,” President Rosa Maria Alfaro said.

Facing increased scrutiny, the show’s host has said the program is not responsible for her slaying.

Criticism of the show is unfair, host Beto Ortiz said.

“What they are doing is giving an alibi to the defenders of a soulless criminal, because they are taking away his responsibility by saying that television creates monsters,” he said.

ANN CURRY SAYS TEARFUL GOODBYE TO ‘TODAY’ SHOW

A choked-up Ann Curry bid farewell to her post as co-anchor on “The Today Show” Thursday morning, finally confirming weeks of speculation about her departure from the popular NBC program.

Curry is clearly devastated by the company’s decision to oust her from what she’s called her “dream job” after nearly 15 years on the show and only a year in the anchor’s seat.

“This is not as I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch,” Curry, holding back tears, told TV viewers as she was surrounded by Matt Lauer and other “Today” show correspondents.

She continued, “For all of you who saw me as a groundbreaker, I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line, but man, I did try.”

Lauer consoled a tearful Curry, saying she has “the biggest heart in the business,” and highlighted some of her best television moments and her personal warmth. “The way you care about people comes through in every single story you report,” said Lauer.

Curry also revealed that while she will be leaving her post on “Today,” she will continue to be a part of the NBC news team as part of NBC’s Olympics coverage and in a unit created specifically for her.

“They’re giving me some fancy new titles, which essentially means I’m going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing,” Curry explained on “Today.”

Curry’s departure leaves an opening in the coveted co-anchor spot, with Savannah Guthrie, who co-hosts the 9 a.m. hour of the “Today” show, seen as the most likely successor.

Ratings troubles have plagued “Today” after ABC’s “Good Morning America” recently broke the once-dominant morning news program’s long-winning ratings streak.

On the same morning that Curry announced her exit, “GMA” anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos paid a classy tribute to Curry, who they called “the heart and soul” of NBC and ended their show with a round of applause for the veteran journalist.

THE ‘TODAY SHOW’ TO REPLACE ANN CURRY: DAMN YOU RATINGS!!!!

Here ‘Today,’ gone tomorrow! That is the story of Ann Curry’s career on the Today Show. Reports show that ‘Good Morning America’ has been kicking the Today Show’s ass in the ratings and in order to compete, Ann Curry has to get the axe. It won’t be easy to get rid of her though. She is not going out without a fight.

The New York Times reports that  Curry, who replaced Meredith Vieira as co-anchor on NBC’s morning show “Today”  last year, is on her way out, with a decision coming as early as next week.

According to the Times, NBC executives are negotiating with Curry in an  effort to find a different position for her, possibly as a foreign  correspondent. The Times’ Brian Stelter writes that Curry, who is reluctant to  give up the position that she assumed a mere year ago, has hired attorney Robert  Barnett, who represented Christiane Amanpour during her exit from ABC News’  “This Week,” to represent her in the negotiations.

“She got her dream job, and she doesn’t want to let it go,” one source told  the Times.

The negotiations reportedly began several weeks ago.

A spokeswoman for NBC declined to comment.

Should ‘Today’ drop Ann Curry?

One source told the Times that the network is hoping to complete Curry’s  departure by the Summer Olympics, which kick off in July, so the network –  which is airing the Olympics — can move forward to the Games with a clean  slate.

“They feel real pressure to get it done by the Olympics,” the individual  said.

If NBC does decide to replace Curry on “Today,” concerns about waning ratings  could be at the heart of it. In April, “Good Morning America” beat “Today” in  total viewership for a full week, the first time that “GMA” could claim such a  victory in 16 years.

MIKE TYSON HEADED TO BROADWAY WITH “UNDISPUTED TRUTH”, A ONE MAN SHOW

Mike Tyson is making the popular move from the big screen to Broadway with his one-man show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.”

The production, under the direction of Spike Lee, will play at the Longacre Theatre for six nights only starting July 31.

According to a website for the show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” is “a rare, personal look inside the life and mind of one of the most feared men ever to wear the heavyweight crown.” The site also assures ticket holders that they’ll be treated to a “riveting one-man show [that] goes beyond the headlines, behind-the-scenes and between the lines to deliver a must-see theatrical knockout.”

Tyson performed the show in Vegas earlier this year, and he told CNN at the time that “Undisputed Truth” is compiled from “the stories of my life that were basically in the headlines,” but also “the underlining story: My relationship with my wife, my conviction, my upbringing, the death of my mother … just who I was as a child back  then, and who I am now.”

According to Playbill.com, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” was written by his wife, Kiki Tyson, and director Randy Johnson, and shows the good and the bad of Tyson’s history. The boxer said in a statement that to share the “highlights and lowlights of my life with New York is especially important to me as I was born and raised in Brooklyn.”

And according to director Lee, Tyson is a “great storyteller,” as he said in a statement.

“Human beings want to hear stories. Whether it’s a play, a documentary … a song, a musical, a novel or a movie, we love to hear stories,” Lee said. “And, with Mike Tyson on stage, you are going to hear a great American story.”

Tickets for the 90-minute show, which runs July 31 through August 5, are on sale now via Telecharge.com as well as by phone.

Winning!! Charlie Sheen get’s another shot to make crazy money and exhibit non-stop bouts of bad behavior. Sheen proves that he does have “Tiger Blood”. Most people had written him off as finished, unhirable, but no, not Charlie Sheen. His new TV show on FX airs soon.

(Rolling Stone) — Charlie Sheen looks back on his rocky past while plotting the next phase of his career in the new issue of Rolling Stone, on newsstands Friday.

The actor, who walked away from the massively popular CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men” last year after a bizarre public meltdown — complete with its own set of memorable catchphrases, from “Winning!” to “Tiger Blood” — will soon star in the new FX show “Anger Management.”

On his post-”Two and a Half Men” antics: “Clearly, a guy gets fired, his relationships are in the toilet, he’s off on some f****** tour, there’s nothing ‘winning’ about any of that. I mean, how does a guy who’s obviously quicksanded, how does he consider any of it a victory? I was in total denial.”

On being off the wagon and making no bones about it: “I mean, the s*** works. Sorry, but it works. Anyway, I don’t see what’s wrong with a few drinks. What’s your drink? Tequila? Mine’s vodka. Straight, because I’ve always said that ice is for injuries, ha ha.”

On his foot fetish: “I’ve not dated girls because of their feet, just the length of certain toes and the shape of where things should be and they’re not. Hammertoes are bad. And the second toe being too long? That’s bad, too.”

On his mended relationship with ex-wife Denise Richards: “He and I are like best friends now,” says Richards. “Confidants. He tells me everything.” Adds Sheen, “And we sleep in separate rooms. Everybody’s going to want to know that, too.”

FIRST TUPAC SHAKUR NOW MARILYN MONROE, GOING ON TOUR HOLOGRAM STYLE

Move over, Tupac, Marilyn Monroe is stealing your spotlight! Watch video of Tupac Shakur’s hologram performance on stage with Snoop Dog below…

The blonde icon is set to become the next celebrity hologram to have her very own concert tour — despite being dead for decades.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” starlet, who died in 1962, will be headlining a “live” musical, tentatively titled “Virtual Marilyn Live — A Musical Celebration of the Birth of the Pop Icon” via hologram.

Using the same technology that brought Tupac Shakur back to life at this year’s Coachella music festival, the tour plans to reach audiences that may not be familiar with the Hollywood bombshell. Becky Altringer, managing director of the company that is putting the concert together, tells The Hollywood Reporter that the tour is designed to create a whole new world for Marilyn fans and to launch her as “a performer, spokesperson, cultural pundit and computer avatar.”

Other deceased celebrities who have been rumored to come “back to life” via hologram tours include Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes from TLC and the legendary Bob Marley. Both rumors have been shot down by both former band members and family members of the deceased celebrities, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen to others. Some names that could have massively successful hologram tours include Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and even Elvis Presley.
