FACEBOOK CITED IN ONE-THIRD OF DIVORCE FILINGS

Couples get divorced for myriad reasons, most notably loss of intimacy, irresolvable conflict, and adultery.

Now Facebook has earned its place among these top excuses.

More than one-third of U.S. divorce filings in 2011 contained the word Facebook, according to a survey by Divorce-Online, a U.K.-based legal services firm.

“And over 80 percent of US divorce attorneys say they’ve seen a rise in the number of cases using social networking, according to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers,” theNew York Post reported.

A similar study performed by Divorce-Online in Great Britain found a 13 percent increase in Facebook mentions from a 2009 study.

There’s some dispute over the findings. According to the Wall Street Journal, marriage and divorce rates in the U.S. have actually dropped in response to Internet usage, and Grant Thornton, an accounting and consulting firm, previously found that infidelity’s role in divorce proceedings has remained stable.

However, News of the study didn’t surprise Massachusetts lawyer Gina Ghioldi, who told NECN that she has seen the trend building.

“It’s making a huge impact on divorce law,” Ghioldi said.

“People are posting, they’re Twittering and they’re not thinking of who may be looking.”

About three days ago Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan. The young billionaire changed his relationship status to “married” while millions of people liked his wedding photo.

But for ordinary citizens, switching their Facebook relationship status, or not doing so, can have negative effects. That was something a man in India found out after his wife of two monthsdivorced him for not changing his relationship status to “married.”

ALEC BALDWIN ALLEGEDLY PUNCHES PAPARAZZI PHOTOGRAPHER

After allegedly lunging himself at a New York Daily News  photographer, actor Alec Baldwin is now at the nucleus of a criminal  investigation in Manhattan after the paparazzo took legal action against the “30  Rock” star.

The incident took place on Tuesday, minutes after Baldwin obtained his  marriage license to wed his Latina fiancée Hilaria Thomas.

Baldwin had a brief encounter with the New York Daily News photographer, Marcus Santos, who attempted to snap photos of him and  Thomas together.

Santos says Baldwin was “looking mad,” and kept telling the photogs to “step  back.”

To that, Santos and the rest of the lensmen stepped away from the reportedly  angry actor, who then allegedly grabbed fellow photographer Jefferson  Siegel.

“I said, ‘Don’t touch him,’” Santos told the New York Daily News. “I  knew he was going to attack me. I stepped back, and he kept coming.”

Santos said that Baldwin was like a rabid dog.

“He comes after me, starts shoving and punching me — one time, right in the  chin,” Santos continued. “Then he started shoving me, and pushing me. Then he  goes the other way.”

Santos added that as Baldwin saw red, he “lunged” at him “like a raging  bull.”

For his part, Baldwin says that he acted in response to aggression toward him  by a photographer.

“A ‘photographer ‘almost hit me in the face with his camera this morning,”  Baldwin tweeted.

“The photographer who assaulted me has (belatedly) gone to a hospital  claiming injuries,” he added.

Witnesses backed up Santos’ description of the incident.

“He was like crazy, you know?” witness Goren Veljic told the New York  Daily News. “There was an eruption of mad. I think something’s wrong with  him.”

Baldwin expressed outrage over the incident on Twitter, saying that all  paparazzi should be “waterboarded” and he also referred to the controversial  Trayvon Martin case.

“I suppose if the offending paparazzi was wearing a hoodie and I shot him, it  would all blow over,” Baldwin tweeted on Tuesday.

According to the New York Daily News, Mickey Osterreicher, general  counsel for the National Press Photographers Association, took exception to  Baldwin’s comparison of the incident with paparazzi to the Martin shooting death  in Florida.

“Rather than make light of a national racial tragedy, I suggest that if you  don’t want to be recognized when you go out in public, it is you who should be  wearing something over your head,” said Osterreicher.

Baldwin was seen later on Tuesday wearing a white sheet over his head,  shielding him from photographers.

ONCE A CHEATER ALWAYS A CHEATER?

I found another interesting article for your saturday reading. This is always a point of discussion for men and women.  I’m a believer that all people can change. People can learn from their mistakes and do better the next time around. What are your thoughts on this issue? I pulled pieces of this article from cnn.com

It’s always possible that people who have cheated in the past will not cheat in the future. But relationship experts say past behavior is a better predictor of the future than any cheater’s promises.

“Denial can be really powerful in new relationships,” said divorce recovery expert Andra Brosh, co-founder of Divorce Detox in Santa Monica, California. “People use it as a defense against knowing the truth. They don’t look at all the facts, and ultimately, that ends up being a problem.”

Cheaters are usually unsatisfied about something in their lives, experts say, or they wouldn’t stray. But it’s not always clear whether they’re truly unhappy with their partners or about something they can’t fix in themselves. Rarely does the cheater take responsibility for his (or her) life and getting out of it honorably. The spouses generally get the blame.

The reputation of Elizabeth Edwards, who separated from John Edwards in 2010 after 32 years of marriage and died of cancer in 2010, seemed to be on trial at times. A full participant in her husband’s presidential campaign, she could be tough and blunt with campaign staffers. After reports surfaced of the affair, a witness testified, Elizabeth Edwards confronted her husband and ripped off her blouse to show her mastectomy scars. “You don’t see me anymore,” former staffer Christina Reynolds quoted her as saying.

“I’ve worked with countless people like this, and it’s always the same,” writes Mira Kirshenbaum, author of “I Love You But I Don’t Trust You,” a book about rebuilding trust in relationships, in an e-mail. “The cheater says, ‘My spouse is fat/stupid/mean/boring/whatever (insert adjective) and I need someone who is skinny/smart/nice/interesting/opposite-of-whatever. You are skinny/smart/nice/interesting/opposite-of-whatever. So we can be happy forever.’ ”

The cheater’s flattery can be intoxicating, convincing the other person that he or she is special and protected from being cheated on in the future. “They think they’re special because they’ve been told they’re special, and they want to believe it,” Kirshenbaum said. “It’s not that people don’t think. It’s that flattery and excitement short-circuit thought. ”

And an ABCNews.com report that a juror might have been flirting with Edwards drew a lot of attention. Edwards flirting? Quelle surprise.

Can cheaters change?

Of course, many cheaters can change if they have the desire. Much has been made of Callista Gingrich, who had an affair with Gingrich while he was married to his second wife, helping her husband convert to Catholicism. It’s possible that Gingrich may stay faithful, if for no other reason than the 24-news cycle means public figures are being constantly scrutinized for evidence of bad behavior.

Affairs with married men or women are a high-risk gamble, says Lawrence Josephs, an Adelphi University psychology professor. Look at the evidence: Cheating is how he or she has chosen to solve relationship problems. “When you win such a man, you are winning someone who feels entitled to have his cake and eat it too and then lie about it,” Josephs said.

So Callista Gingrich or any future Edwards girlfriend shouldn’t assume she can change the cheater or that he will be different with her because she’s so special. Their love, and his belief in God or occupancy of the White House, will not keep anyone faithful if he doesn’t want to be or can’t be faithful. (Former President Bill Clinton proved that point.)

Questions to ask

It is possible for people in decent marriages to fall in love outside the marriage, but it’s important to carefully assess whether the couple can get beyond the fantasy to the reality of love. “I would try to look carefully at the (cheater’s) motivation and see what you feel is genuinely true between the two of us,” said Susan Piver, author of “The Wisdom of a Broken Heart.” “Do you admire their character otherwise? Do you feel loved and seen as you are?”

There needs to be some recognition that your relationship isn’t a perfect replacement of an imperfect marriage.

“A question to ask yourself is, ‘Does my relationship include difficulty?’ ” Piver recommended. “Are there things that bug me about this person? If there aren’t, that would send up a red flag for me.”

If they seem only motivated by ambition or simply looking for brighter horizons, “delete them from your Facebook account and move on,” she says.

BARACK OBAMA HAS EIGHT BALLS!

Yes, BARACK OBAMA HAS EIGHT BALLS!! I know that that yesterday was Sunday, a day of worship. I know that yesterday was mother’s day, a day in the presence of mother. How dare I say the word “balls” in the presence of mother?! I also know that the title of this blog may ruffle some feathers because we just woke up from of day in church with mother. I know all that, but I can’t ignore that Barack Obama has eight big balls!!

Many people have balls, but very few have the number of balls needed to make the decision to support gay marriage. Why is this is such big deal, you may ask? The reason why this is such a big deal is the fact that Barack, The President of the United States, went against the beliefs of the Black Church. The Black Church is a major power player when it comes to the Black vote. The Black Churches control the Black Vote and the majority of the Black churches do not support gay marriage. I give him so much credit for stepping up and making the decision to change the thinking and beliefs of Black people in America. That is the what a leader does. That is what the leader of the free world is supposed to do….LEAD!!

Some people wonder if the black church will punish President Barack Obama for announcing support for same-sex marriage.

It’s so unfortunate,” says James Cone, author of “The Cross and the Lynching Tree.” “The literal approach to scripture was used to enslave black people,” he says. “I’ve said many times in black churches that the black church is on the wrong side of history on this. It’s so sad because they were on the right side of history in their own struggle.” Call it historical irony: Black church leaders arguing against same-sex marriage are making some of the same arguments that supporters of slavery made in the 18th and 19th centuries, some historians say. Both groups adopted a literal reading of the Bible to justify withholding basic rights from a particular group.

Opposition to gay rights is not the standard position of all black churches. Still, while several predominately white mainline denominations have officially accepted gays and lesbians in various forms, the vast majority of black churches still consider homosexuality a sin.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

It’s valentines day. Love or the intense desire to feel loved is in the air. There is no definitive origin of Valentine’s Day. It’s possible that it was a Roman fertility festival. Another legend assigns the holiday to commemorate St. Valentine, a Roman clergyman. St. Valentine was executed on February 14, about 270 AD, for marrying couples against the mandate of the emperor.

On this day, girls get chocolates and flowers, guys get electronics and sports tickets, stores make tons of money, restaurants make a killing, and everybody is happy! Condom sales are sky high and statistically, at-home pregnancy  test sales reach their zenith in the month following Valentine’s Day as the  consequences of all those romantic couplings are realized. I like valentines day because I believe that any day dedicated to love is one more day where we don’t think about hate and pain.

While most women consider Valentine’s Day to be a celebration of love and  intimacy, many men consider it nothing more than an artificial holiday cooked up  by the floral and greeting card industries. While the reality might rest  somewhere in between, a few interesting statistics prove that February 14 is a  significant day. However, exactly what makes it significant may surprise you.

Did You Know? * It’s estimated that 2.2 million couples get married each year. That stat came from a 2006 Census Bureau report, but they didn’t have any specific break down about percentage of engagements that take place on Valentine’s Day. I did run across one site that credited the Diamond Information Center with publishing a stat that approximately 10% of marriage proposals will happen on Valentine’s Day.

*Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days to get engaged, but so is Christmas (figured that), Thanksgiving (surprise), New Year’s Eve (didn’t occur to me), and the bride-to-be’s birthday (I wouldn’t have thought of this one right off, but I have heard of that and it makes perfect sense).

*According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the most popular gift given to celebrate Valentine’s Day is greeting cards. (65%.)

*According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the gift used least to celebrate Valentine’s Day is jewelry. (Only 11%.)

*The United States isn’t the only country to celebrate Valentine’s Day. So does Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, and Australia.

*The first Valentine thought to ever be written dates back to 1415 when Charles, the Duke of Orleans, who was imprisoned in the Tower of London, sent a love letter to his wife. It even still exists. (As part of the British Library’s collection.)

*About 40% of the 180 million Valentine’s cards purchased will be done so by parents. (Now whether this is for their children or by people who have children wasn’t clear, which I thought made it an even more interesting statistic.)

*It’s estimated 15% of women will send themselves flowers on Valentine’s Day.

So armed with all this information, have a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

MARRY ME…YES…LET’S STAY TOGETHER FOREVER…NOOOOO!!

Nobody seems to want to work at their marriages anymore. The operative word here is ‘work’. Most people forget that any relationship, not to mention, a marriage is a lot of work. . It’s not going to be a honeymoon forever. Once the honeymoon wears off, people want out! The rest of the world including Africa always believed that this was just a western phenomenon, but the divorce rate in Nigeria and the rest of Africa is quickly rising. Is it TV, movies or are we just a plain lazy generation? The doivorce rate in America is now at 50%. It doesn’t just happen with celebrities and high profile marriages anymore, regular folks are getting in on the act. Back when our parents were married, they believed in working through tough patches in a relationship in order to make it work. They knew that it would not always be roses and candy. It will be rocky at times. They were prepared.

Everybody loses in a divorce. The biggest losers are the kids. I don’t care what anybody says, kids lives are damaged in a divorce, no matter how amiccable the divorce is. Any kind of instability screws up childrens lives. It causes them to feel an insecurity that they are not equiped to handle. You can always see the difference in behaviour between a child raised in a two parent home as opposed to a broken one. In many situations, therapy doesn’t fix these kids. They go out into the world as damaged people. Ticking time bombs. Many marriages end due to selfishness. One spouse decides that they don’t want to work on the relationship any more and are willing to walk out on everyone, including kids. ‘They grow apart’. How the hell do you grow apart? There are signs that there are problems way before it gets to the point of no return. Talk for God’s sake!!! People just don’t talk to each other anymore.

Another reason why many marriages end up in divorce is because most people do not think their actions through. Do I truly love this person or do they just look good on paper? Is this who I want to spend the rest of my life with? Is this someone I want to spend every waking moment with? Do they drive me up the wall? Do I sometimes visualize strangling them in their sleep? Am I getting married because it’s what I’m supposed do? Am I getting married because I’m at the getting married age? These are questions that if not answered, will definitely lead to a miserable marriage and ultimately divorce. Check yourself before you get into a doomed marriage.

Most relationships are made with the intention to never end, but sometimes, somehow or somewhere along the line, the sparks and the trust may fade away and then the romance goes. Breakups can happen to anyone, but celebrities are the ones whose affairs get the most attention. Here’s the 5 celebrity breakups that got me writing:

Heidi  and Seal:  Heidi Klum and Seal confirmed to People magazine that they are splitting.  Over the weekend, the buzz on the split of the supermodel from her singer husband of over six years was reported by several celebrity news websites like TMZ and Radar Online. However, there was no statement from the couple or their reps.
Now, People magazine is carrying a statement from Heidi and Seal saying they have decided to separate. The couple have requested privacy for the sake of their children.  As reported by TMZ earlier, Heidi and Seal will apparently file divorce papers in the LA County Superior Court early this week. They have four children.

Katy Perry – Russell Brand: Russell Brand, who married Katy Perry in India in October 2010, filed for divorce on the last day of 2011.  They only lasted one year. Are you kidding me!! According to gossip website TMZ, Russell said: “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
Russell, 36, and Katy had fueled speculation all was not well in their marriage after spending Christmas 7,000 miles apart, with Katy in Hawaii and Russell in Cornwall, South West England. The couple reportedly had a “massive fight” over the festive season.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

Demi Moore decided to end her marriage to Ashton Kutcher in November after six years.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation,” Moore said in her statement to the Associated Press.

The separation allegedly happened because rumors of Ashton’s infidelity. With a 15-year gap between Demi (49) and Kutcher (33), the divorce seemed to be expected by the public, despite some arguments saying that the age difference was irrelevant.

Was it a shocking breakup or an “I told you so” moment?
Another tough one. What’s going on with the kids?

Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger
A recent report by celebrity gossip Web site TMZ said that Shriver was considering putting her divorce from the former California governor on hold.

That’s probably the nicest Christmas gift for the Schwarzenegger family, but remember why they got into the divorce case in the first place. With the couple getting back together, is it really the best step to take?

Earlier this year, a report came out stating that Schwarzenegger had an affair and a love child with a trusted family maid Mildred Baena, who kept the secret for almost 14 years. Can someone say douche bag?
An article by the Daily Mail included a statement from a family friend: “Arnold desperately wants Maria to forgive him and take him back, but she can’t get past his deception at this point. However, he still has a strong emotional influence over her.”

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

J. Lo announced her divorce from Marc Anthony in August after seven years of marriage.
Recently, their divorce is getting a lot uglier than it seemed when it first reported. Apparently the two are ready to fight for custody of their twins, Emme and Max.
Poor kids. They will be the ones that lose and pay
Allegedly, Marc was not too happy with the bond between J. Lo’s new lover Casper Smart and the couple’s children.
However, it didn’t take Marc long to move on, either. A report by the Australian publication The Herald said the Latin singer was spotted having a lunch date with a rumored new girlfriend, model Adriana Ontiveros.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Kim Kardashian. There’s always something going with her.
Recently, she called off her marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries after just 10 weeks being together.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kardashian said in a statement published by entertainment channel E! Online. Are you kidding me? 72 days. Young people look at this type of behaviour and think it’s cool.
