If you treat your abs like an after thought, they will look like an after thought.

Good morning all!! It’s Sunday morning, which means that another week has come to an end and another week is set begin in a few hours. Sunday is a great day to reflect on the week past and plan/get ready for the new week. My Sundays are usually spent researching ideas and articles on varying subject matters and then write about them. Today I’m going to write about how to get sexy male model abs. I don’t have to research this topic because I live it….everyday.

Abs are the key to being successful as a model. It is especially important for someone who has a desire to become a fitness model. Abs are the ultimate measure of fitness. Ripped abs shows that you have put in the work in the gym and you have discipline to eat healthy in order to get lean. In order words, it means that you are in beast mode!!

When you walk to into a modeling agency, seeking to become a fitness model, the first thing the agent will ask is for you to take off your shirt. This request is not personal. They are not trying to put you down. The truth is that if you do not have ripped, sexy abs, you cannot work as fitness model. PERIOD!!!

In this blog post today, I will share how I got my abs to become more muscular and ripped. Contrary to what many people may say, you have to treat your abs just as you would treat any other muscle in your body. You have treat your ab muscles just as you would your chest, biceps or triceps. You have to work them hard. Many people do not train their abs until the end of their workouts and then they wonder why their abs do not grow and get ripped. If you treat your abs like an after thought, they will look like an after thought.

I will share one example of my workouts in this blog today. This way, you will get a chance to try this routine without getting overwhelmed by information. When you have tried it, please write back and let me know how you fared with it. I will share more workouts shortly, so stay tuned.

No matter what movement or body part(s) that I’m working on for each day, I begin every workout by doing 20-30 minutes of cardiovascular activity on a treadmill, bike or jumping rope. I then move on to abs, before lifting any weights. To start, I do side planks for 45 seconds on each side and then I do 60 seconds in a regular plank position. After this, I move over and do the weighted rope crunches-leg raises combination. This means that I will do a set of weighted rope crunches and then go over and do a set of leg raises, without resting. The rope crunches work the muscles in the mid to upper region of the abs and leg raises work the lower region of the abs. See the pictures of the exercises below. My goal for working my abs in this routine is to get my ab muscles stronger and make them more dense by using heavy weight on the rope crunches. I would not suggest using heavy weights on leg raises because the lower ab region is weak on most people and may cause abdominal or lower back injury.

The workout is as follows:

Weighted Cable Crunches:

1 Warm up set followed by 4 Sets of 8-10 reps

Leg raises on an incline bench:

1 warm set followed by 4 sets of 10-15 reps

Stretch out your abs and then move on to your movement/body part lift for the day. ENJOY!!!

When the fastest men on the planet contest the Olympic 100 meters final in London on August 5, it will be a major upset if the winner does not come from the small Caribbean island of Jamaica.

Injuries or false starts aside, Usain Bolt will take center stage as he bids to retain the title he won in Beijing in 2008, but if he slips up then young pretender Yohan Blake is waiting in the wings, not to mention veteran former world record-holder Asafa Powell.

With such a pool of talent, 4x100m relay success is almost guaranteed, and Bolt is an even heavier favorite for 200m individual gold.

In the women’s events, Jamaican domination is also a common theme, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce defending her 100m crown and Veronica Campbell-Brown going for a hat-trick of golds in the 200m.

Sprinters from the United States have won the majority of gold medals in the modern Olympic era and the likes of Tyson Gay will be keen to knock Bolt off the top of the podium in London.

But Gay represents a country with a population of over 300 million people with a massive tradition in track and field through the eras of stars such as Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis and Florence Griffith-Joyner.

So how is it that they are now largely second best to athletes from an impoverished island inhabited by fewer than three million people?

And it’s not only athletes who don the famous gold and green trim of Jamaica who have made their mark.

Olympic 100m champions Linford Christie (for Great Britain in 1992) and Donovan Bailey (for Canada in 1996) were born and bred in Jamaica, as was the now disgraced Ben Johnson, who also represented Canada.

So what is the secret of this remarkable Jamaican sprinting pedigree and will it continue into the future?

Role models

With role models like Bolt and Campbell-Brown, the conveyor belt of talent certainly shows no signs of slowing. The 22-year-old Blake, who won last year’s world championship 100m in Daegu when Bolt was disqualified in the final for false starting, is the latest to emerge.

Bolt himself drew inspiration from a former Jamaican great — Don Quarrie, who won the 1976 Olympic 200m title in Montreal and six Commonwealth Games gold medals.

“For me Don Quarrie was somebody to watch and to be amazed by,” Bolt told CNN’s Aiming for Gold program.

“That’s why I love the 200m so much because I’ve seen Don Quarrie and I said, ‘I can be that good.’ Quarrie, (Herb) McKenley, these are the guys that I looked up to.”

McKenley and Arthur Wint were the first Jamaicans to taste Olympic success, at the 1948 London Games.

The elegant Wint pipped McKenley for gold in the longer 400m sprint, while the latter achieved the rare feat of reaching the finals of the 100, 200 and 400m at the first post-war Olympics.

Of Jamaica’s current crop of women stars, Campbell-Brown was mentored by the great Merlene Ottey, who won a record 14 world championship medals for Jamaica in the sprint events and was still competing at international level for her adopted Slovenia past her 50th birthday. Now 52, Ottey still has hopes of qualifying for London 2012.

“She (Ottey) is a very positive person, very strong, very hard working, very passionate and she is a friend,” Campbell-Brown told CNN.

A hard school

Campbell-Brown went to the same high school in Jamaica as Ottey — Vere Technical — and both earned their trade in the ferociously competitive track and field schools competition on the island.

Bolt is convinced the key to Jamaican success is the intense rivalry of grassroots athletics from an early age.

Wholeheartedly, I agree..We all came from a woman. Therefore, we must RESPECT….RESPECT….RESPECT all of our women. So, stop beheading women all in the name of bullshit family honour. Send women to school. Treat them with respect. Stop enslaving them.

See them as partners, not as mere subordinates. Quit arranging their marriages while they’re still in the womb. Allow them to make their own choices. Please give women the credit they deserve.

Make female genital mutilation history. End marrying 10 and 13-year-olds in the name of crap religion. Just think of a world without women…It would be dull and senseless and useless and I don’t wanna be there. Now, do the right thing.

Bo Muller-Moore sells $25 hand-stenciled “Eat More Kale” T-shirts that he cranks out one at a time in his Vermont home, and this has ruffled the feathers of Chick-fil-A.

The fast-food chain, which rang up $3.5 billion in sales in 2010, is trying to put Muller-Moore out of business—for the second time in five years. Chick-fil-A, which is second only to king-of-the-fast-food-coop KFC, considers him a threat to the brand.

Chick-fil-A says Muller-Moore’s T-shirt business, founded in 2000, infringes on its trademarked slogan “Eat Mor Chikin.” It’s a [deliberately-misspelled] advertising campaign the Atlanta-based chain launched in 1995 and, according to the company website, changed the burger-eating landscape forever. The message “reaches millions—on television, radio, the Internet, and the occasional water tower,” explains the website. (The closest Chick-fil-A to Vermont is in Nashua, N.H., more than 120 miles away.)

Chick-fil-A first came after Muller-Moore in 2006, with a letter demanding that the artist—who also posts screenprinting instructional videos at—cease and desist from printing T-shirts and send Chick-fil-A any inventory.

“Man, it knocked the wind out of me,” Muller-Moore, 39, told the Burlington Free Press. “I make my living as a foster parent. At the time, I had one small child. I now have two of my own. My business has grown every year. I’m certainly not getting rich. I can’t live on it. It’s the foster parenting gig that pays the bills, but that said, the business is growing every year. I’m in it for the long haul.”

Muller-Moore applied to the Vermont Arts Council for free legal help, and a lawyer wrote some letters on his behalf. It seemed Chick-fil-A backed down. But then in August Muller-Moore applied for a U.S. trademark for “Eat More Kale” to use the phrase on a range of clothing and stickers.

Chick-fil-A cried fowl. In October of 2011 the company’s lawyers sent a letter to Muller-Moore, noting that the company owns numerous U.S. and international trademarks and copyrights for both “Eat Mor Chikin” and for cows holding sandwich-boards reading “Eat Mor Chikin.”

“Your client’s Eat More Kale Mark plays off of and imitates Chick-fil-A’s valuable ‘Eat Mor Chikin’ Intellectual Property by using a prefix confusingly similar to Chick-fil-A’s federally-registered ‘Eat Mor Chikin’ trademarks,” Chick-Fil-A’s lawyer wrote to Muller-Moore’s, according to the Free Press. “Your client’s misappropriation of Chick-fil-A’s ‘Eat Mor Chikin’ intellectual property, to play off of and benefit from the extraordinary fame and goodwill of Chick-fil-A’s trademarks, copyrights and popular promotional campaign, is likely to cause confusion of the public and dilutes the distinctiveness of Chick-fil-A’s intellectual property and diminishes its value. Such actions constitute trademark infringement, dilution and unfair competition in violation of federal and state law.”

The six-page letter notes that Chick-fil-A has successfully defended against 30 other “Eat More” phrases, including “Eat More Goat” and “Eat More Beer,” and says the chicken chain has won lawsuits against Burger King Corp. and others. (In 2000, Chick-fil-A objected to a Burger King ad where animated poultry from the film Chicken Run held up signs reading “Save the Chickens: Eat a Whopper.”)

The letter asks that Muller-Moore abandon his trademark application, “cease and forever desist” all plans to use the phrase “Eat More Kale” for his business—and transfer the domain name to Chick-fil-A. (It says the chicken chain would not object to Muller-Moore using “Eat Kale” or”)

Muller-Moore’s lawyer has fired off a five-page response, which observes that no one is likely to confuse the two slogans.

“My client’s phrase shares only six out of twelve of the same letters as your client’s phrase and none of the imagery or conceits,” Richardson writes. “My client has no cow designs which appear in conjunction with the phrase ‘Eat More Kale.’”

Whether one is likely to be confused with the other may be less at issue than whether Chick-fil-A can be seen to be lax in its defense of its own trademarks.

“If a trademark owner fails to protect their trademark, they run the risk of losing it,” wrote Steve O’Donnell, a Lancaster, Pa., trademark attorney, of a 2010 case where Chick-fil-A complained about an Orlando area fruit and vegetable market using the slogan “Eat More Produce.”

A former Rutgers University  student who was convicted of bias for using a webcam to see his roommate and  another man kissing was released from jail Tuesday after serving 20 days of a  30-day sentence.

Dharun  Ravi, 20, reported to the Middlesex County jail on May 31, though he could  have remained free while his case is appealed. His lawyer, Steven Altman, picked  him up around 8:30 a.m. Ravi, who was clean-shaven when he entered jail, had a  beard when he left.

He did not stop to speak with the  media before he rode off in Altman’s car.

A judge sentenced him to 30 days  in jail — far less than the 10-year prison sentence he could have given him. He  still faces three years of probation, plus more than $11,000 in fines and  assessments, 300 hours of community service, and counseling.

Like other county jail inmates,  Ravi automatically was given five days off for good behavior and five for  working.

Federal immigration authorities  said Monday that Ravi will not be deported to his native India. He lived there  until he was 5 years old and remains a citizen, though he is in the United  States legally.

Foreign citizens convicted of  crimes here can face deportation — usually after they complete their prison or  jail terms. Last year, Ravi rejected a plea deal under which prosecutors would  have sought to protect him from being deported.

Ravi’s supporters argued for  leniency in part to make it less likely that he would be deported. Experts say  the proceedings are usually initiated against those who are incarcerated for a  year or more.

Ravi was convicted in March of 15  criminal charges, including bias intimidation, invasion of privacy and tampering  with a witness.

Jurors heard during a trial that  lasted three weeks that he used a friend’s computer in September 2010 to view a  few seconds of live streaming video from his own dorm-room webcam and saw  roommate Tyler Clementi and another man kissing.

He told others about it in person,  in texts, instant messages and tweets — and alerted others again two days later  that Clementi, 18, wanted the room to himself again. That time, the camera did  not operate.

A night later, Clementi committed  suicide. His story has been held up since then as a prime example of what can go  wrong when young gays are bullied, though Ravi was not charged with the  death.

Prosecutors are appealing the  sentence, arguing that Ravi should have to serve more time for his actions. Ravi  is appealing the conviction, saying he is not guilty.

Ravi’s lawyer has said he’ll start  paying off the fines and begin working on the community service part of his  sentence.

His time in jail was nearly as  long as his time as a Rutgers student.

Mike Tyson is making the popular move from the big screen to Broadway with his one-man show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.”

The production, under the direction of Spike Lee, will play at the Longacre Theatre for six nights only starting July 31.

According to a website for the show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” is “a rare, personal look inside the life and mind of one of the most feared men ever to wear the heavyweight crown.” The site also assures ticket holders that they’ll be treated to a “riveting one-man show [that] goes beyond the headlines, behind-the-scenes and between the lines to deliver a must-see theatrical knockout.”

Tyson performed the show in Vegas earlier this year, and he told CNN at the time that “Undisputed Truth” is compiled from “the stories of my life that were basically in the headlines,” but also “the underlining story: My relationship with my wife, my conviction, my upbringing, the death of my mother … just who I was as a child back  then, and who I am now.”

According to, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” was written by his wife, Kiki Tyson, and director Randy Johnson, and shows the good and the bad of Tyson’s history. The boxer said in a statement that to share the “highlights and lowlights of my life with New York is especially important to me as I was born and raised in Brooklyn.”

And according to director Lee, Tyson is a “great storyteller,” as he said in a statement.

“Human beings want to hear stories. Whether it’s a play, a documentary … a song, a musical, a novel or a movie, we love to hear stories,” Lee said. “And, with Mike Tyson on stage, you are going to hear a great American story.”

Tickets for the 90-minute show, which runs July 31 through August 5, are on sale now via as well as by phone.

You hear stories like this from around the world and yet we, Africans, are the ones being called barbaric? I don’t think so. If you think your life is hard, imagine if you were never given the chance to begin your life. This is the most dangerous place to be born a girl.

Nineteen-year-old Reshma Banu sits on the stairs outside her parents’ home, staring at the tiny screen on her cell phone. The video on the screen has her mesmerized: a very short home video of her baby girl, Afreen. The moments captured are precious because they show Banu’s only child alive and well.  Afreen died in the hospital. She was three months old.

Authorities say the baby was admitted to the hospital with bite marks, cigarette burns and a dislocated neck. Police say she was killed by her father.

“After my delivery my husband had come to see me and the baby. He said, ‘It is a girl, why did you give birth to a girl?’”

He wanted a boy, an heir. Girls were too expensive, he said. A couple of days after giving birth, Banu says her husband gave an ultimatum.

“For her wedding we will require a hundred thousand rupees (about US$1,800 dollars) for all the expense. If you can get that amount from your mother, then keep her, but if you can’t, then kill her,” Banu recalled her husband as saying.

She didn’t believe he meant it and was sure he would change his mind once he held his soft, bright-eyed baby girl.

Three months later, her baby is dead, and her husband is under arrest, accused of beating the baby to death. Police say he confessed to the killing.

This is by no means the first case of its kind in India. Attitudes, traditions, and economics have come together to make being a girl a dangerous prospect in the country, doctors say. Most of the time girls are disposed of long before they are born.

How? Sex-selective abortions.

India has a growing gender gap: The 2011 census showed that for every 1,000 boys six years or younger there were only 914 girls. It is the lowest child sex ratio since India’s independence in 1947.

The United Nations has said India is the most dangerous place to be a girl. Dr. Anand Krishnan at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), who has studied the gender gap for years, agrees.

“Yes, largely this is from the point of view of mortality statistics for girls versus boys,” Krishnan told CNN.

Sex-selective abortions are against the law in India but are still happening at an alarming rate, he said.

His study shows a surprising trend: Sex selective abortions among the educated and well-off seem to be more prevalent than among the desperately poor and uneducated. Despite greater prosperity, their mindsets have not changed and they have the money to pay for ultrasounds and abortions.

“A boy is seen as a better investment. They prefer boys,” Krishnan said.

The explanation goes something like this: In traditional Indian families the men marry and bring their bride home to live and take care of his parents.

Girls, on the other hand, marry and leave the home without providing extra financial support.

Moreover, a girl’s family can go broke trying to pay a dowry to get her married. Although outlawed in India, dowries are still common and take different forms throughout society.

Indian law also forbids doctors to tell a couple the sex of their child after an ultrasound, but many clinics break the law and do so anyway.

India has made an effort across the country to stop female infanticide.

CNN visited a village in Haryana state with one of the worst ratios of boys to girls, according to the Indian government. A campaign is under way to change villagers’ minds about girls.

Tiny placards above the doors of several homes say in Hindi: “If you get rid of your girls, where will you find your daughter-in-laws?”

A teenage boy wore a T-shirt that said, “Save our girls.”

Nonetheless, there were young boys everywhere and only a few young girls. Villagers only affirmed why there appeared to be an imbalance.

She had just come into the world. She was like a flower bud, and he killed her. I lost my daughter. What can be worse than this?
Reshma Banu

“Girls are mostly aborted here. The people want more boys. There is a shortage of girls,” Chandravati said without hesitation.

From Nairaland Forum:

Controversial maverick entertainment personality, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has set another record with his confession that he is gay. By so confessing, he becomes only the second publicly known gay man in Nigeria. Any where else in the world, this would not be a big deal. I’ve been reading different blogs on this and people refuse to believe that Charly Boy is indeed gay. They think that it is a publicity stunt. That makes absolutely no sense. If a man tell’s you what he is, it is what it is! Since when did being gay become a ploy for publicity?

Pastor Rowland Macaulay beat him Charly Boy to the punch by being the first Nigerian to openly come out and even establish a church that catered for only gay people.

Those who know Charly Boy well however say he’s not someone who likes being a follower. He’s always a leader in everything he does and he’s now ready to take his rightful leadership position in the gay world. In an interview with a new publication, Danfo Express, Charly Boy declared that he is gay and not ashamed of being gay.

Who is at fault here? The man who committed the crime or the department that did not catch it? How did this happen? I would assume that in order to obtain job, a rigorous background check would be carried out. This man, BIMBO OLUMUYIWA OYEWOLE was arrested for using the identity of a dead man, JERRY THOMAS to obtain a job as a top security officer at the international airport in Newark,  New Jersey.

This security breach of the highest order was uncovered at Newark Liberty Airport, NEW JERSEY on Monday. I live in New York and have flown out of this airport several times. How secure does news like this make me feel? If this man could do this, anyone can do it. Get it….ANYONE!!!

BIMBO OLUMUYIWA OYEWOLE is a 54- year-old illegal immigrant from NIGERIA. His co-workers claimed they knew him as Jerry Thomas. During investigation, it was uncovered that Bimbo, somehow obtained the birth certificate and Social Security number of a man murdered in Queens in 1992. He then used them to obtain a New Jersey State driver’s license, a state security guard license, airport ID Card and credit cards. While working as a security official in Newark, Bimbo had access to the tarmac and passenger planes without ever being detected, officials said.

At the time of his arrest he supervised 30 other guards. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says he had worked at Newark’s Liberty airport for about 20 years and had passed background checks. He had also worked under several contractors at the airport, most recently FJC Security Services. BIMBO OLUMUYIWA OYEWOLE has since been charged.

trag·e·dy –  a dramatic composition, often in verse, dealing with a serious or somber theme, typically that of a great person destined through a flaw of character or conflict with some overpowering force, as fate or society, to downfall or destruction.

I have been working very hard on allowing myself to stop and smell roses every now and again. I would usually feel guilty if every moment of my day is not filled with work or thoughts of work. I have to continue to remind myself that life is short and is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest. Yesterday, even though I had a lot of chores crammed into my to do list, I decided not to stress the list. I went to the gym and sparred with my good friend, Phil. It was my first time sparring in over a week. I was able to throw a light jab with my left arm. I felt some pain, but nothing that I couldn’t work through. I felt great to be able to move again. Phil had a great time as time. Boxing is very therapeutic.

After boxing, I went out to a late lunch with some close friends and had a blast. Thoughts of work were far from my mind. I came ahome and wanted to watch a movie. I scrolled through Netflix and chose to watch ‘Grizzly Man’. This is a documentary made about Timothy Treadwell, 46, a self proclaimed eco-warrior and photographer, along with girlfriend Amie Huguenard, 37 who were killed and eaten by a bear. I love documentaries and this one seemed interesting. For 13 summers Timothy Treadwell fled California for the wilds of Alaska, where he set his camp among some of the largest and most numerous brown bears left in North America. Treadwell gained national celebrity status after his appearance February 20, 2001 on CBS’s David Letterman Show(Kevin sanders – The BearMan).

In the film, there were several mentions of the word ‘tragedy’ and it got me thinking about whether every death is indeed a tragedy. I’m not sure. Broad stroke thinking would present the argument that most dead people leave someone behind, who at one time or another, cared for them and will miss them. Is that where the tragedy lies? In the case of Timothy Treadwell, I think the tragic situation occured long before his death. Timothy’s parents were interviewed in the documentary and they seemed to have lost him long before his death. They talked about him being a failed actor, who finally lost his mind after he did not get a role on the hit show ‘Cheers’. Timothy also exhibited signs of schizophrenia in some of his rants on camera.

Wild animals are not pets. They are very dangerous because they are unpredictable. My dog, Gary, was rescued from a suituation in which he would sometimes escape and disappear for several days. For this reason, Gary is a bit of a wild animal. He weighs just 14 pounds, which is why I feel confident in having him as a pet. I know that he cannot cause severe bodily harm to me or people around me. Bears on the other hand, weigh over 1000 lbs. The bear that killed Timothy and his girlfriend, Amie, was described as scrawny, but weighed 100o pounds! This is crazy. This is not a joke nor it a game. One swipe of a full-grown bear’s claw can disembowel a human, killing them. Throughout the movie, Grizzly Man, we see Tim in numerous close encounters, and very nearly attacked on several occasions. Because he was not attacked says more for the bears than to Tim’s expertise in handling aggressive bears. He was just plain lucky for 13 years and became over confident in his own abilities. The fact that he was not killed earlier, just goes to prove that grizzly bears really want nothing to do with humans and would rather avoid us whenever possible, but will tolerate us, to a point.

This film was a bit irresponsible because it made Timothy out to be this sensitive, loving person, instead of showing him for the crazy person that he truly was. He always said that wanted to save the bears, but he put them and other humans in danger by habituating the bears to humans. The bears natural instinct is to run away from humans. Habituation makes them get close to the humans who might attack them and vice versa. The film didn’t show Timothy feeding the Fox which is can be seen hanging around Tim’s tent (further research showed me that there was indeed footage that shows him feeding the Fox). They didn’t come around because Timothy was a nice guy, they did so because they wanted an easy source of food.

So, in conclusion, where does the tragedy lie? People die everyday from accidents, disease and even suicide. Are all of them tragic? Timothy Teadwell did great things by educating the world about bears, but he did cross the line in a major way. The tragedy is born out of Tim’s unhealthy relationship with human beings, which caused him to seek to escape to a wild world where no one would judge him. At least, so he thought. Unfortunately, unlike humans, wild animals show no mercy. His parents and friends are left behind to carry the burden of the loss of his life. He lived and died the way he wanted to. Should we feel sadness for him?

Through war with honor. Through adversity with courage. Through it all with each other. These are the powerful words that describe the black pilots, who made up the team called the “Tuskegee Airmen”, who fought to defend their country when it needed them the most. George Lucas, the creator, director and producer of the Star Wars series has once again created and produced another classic, Red Tails. Red Tails is based on the inspiring story of the Tuskegee Airmen, starring the ever great Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr.

A crew of black pilots in the Tuskegee training program, having faced segregation while kept mostly on the ground during World War II, are called into duty under the guidance of Col. A.J. Bullard, played by Terrence Howard. As the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options—including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Against all the odds these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country.

As a black actor, I implore you to go out and see Red Tails on January 20th!! We have to all go out and see Red Tails on January 20th. We have to make Red Tails number on that weekend because the future of films with all black casts depends on the success of Red Tails.

In an appearance on The Daily Show last night, George Lucas said that he had trouble getting funding for his new movie, “Red Tails,” because of its black cast.

“This has been held up for release since 1942 since it was shot, I’ve been trying to get released ever since,” Lucas quipped to Jon Stewart. “It’s because it’s an all-black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all…I showed it to all of them and they said no. We don’t know how to market a movie like this.”

“Red Tails,” which stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Terrence Howard,  is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, the group of pioneering black pilots who fought in the United States’ segregated armed forces during World War II. The movie is directed by Anthony Hemingway, the rare black director getting a chance to direct a big-budget feature.

Last week, Lucas told USA Today that he was worried that if  Red Tails was a failure, it could have negative repercussions for black filmmakers. “I realize that by accident I’ve now put the black film community at risk [with Red Tails, whose $58 million budget far exceeds typical all-black productions],” he said. “I’m saying, if this doesn’t work, there’s a good chance you’ll stay where you are for quite a while. It’ll be harder for you guys to break out of that [lower-budget] mold. But if I can break through with this movie, then hopefully there will be someone else out there saying let’s make a prequel and sequel, and soon you have more Tyler Perrys out there.”
