SEXY FLIGHT ATTENDANTS AND CREW, A THING OF THE PAST!

Flying used to be so sexy. Gone are the days when flight attendants and flight crew looked like the cast of the TV show ‘PANAM”.

Back in the days when passengers had to walk across the tarmac to board a plane, they were greeted by “air hostesses” arrayed in knee-high boots, short skirts and white gloves.

In 1971, the now-defunct U.S.-based National Airlines ran a saucy and suggestive ad that featured a flight attendant named Cheryl, smiling affably and accompanied by the seductive slogan, “I’m Cheryl. Fly me.”

There was another one, this time with Jo.

Business reportedly jumped 23 percent, despite accusations of sexism.

Along with National Airlines’ advertising campaign (American Airlines may have given them a run for their money), Eastern Airlines encouraged flirting with stewardesses by handing out little black books to male passengers for storing phone numbers.

Flight attendants were trained at “charm farms” to maximize their feminine sex appeal and a book depicting the golden age of travel by two “adventurous” former flight attendants entitled “Coffee, Tea or Me?” further stoked the flames of the fantasy of flying.

The airline industry has since gone through some major overhauls.

Airlines have adopted a gender-neutral professionalism, austere security measures and the ever-widening gaps between the luxury seat and the cramped budget one.

Societal norms have changed for the better — it’s hard to imagine some of the outfits pictured here ever being approved.

Still, it’s interesting to recall the fashion ethos of yesteryear.

HIJACK ATTEMPT IN CHINA FOILED BY PASSENGERS AND CREW

Passengers and crew members thwarted an attempt by six people to hijack a plane in the western Chinese province of Xinjiang, local authorities said Friday.

Ten minutes into the flight between the cities of Hotan and Urumqi, the six alleged attackers on board the plane tried to take control of it “through violence,” a short statement by the provincial police said.

The passengers and crew members managed to subdue the alleged hijackers, sustaining minor injuries in the struggle, police said. The plane then returned to Hotan.

Once the plane was back on the ground, police took the suspects into custody.

Authorities said the case is under further investigation. They didn’t immediately disclose any information about the identity of the six people in detention.

Shortly after Drake broke his silence about the Big Apple brawl between his camp and Chris Brown’s, insisting he was on his way out of the NYC nightclub at the time of the incident, Brown released a statement also proclaiming his innocence in the matter.Chris Brown suffered a nasty cut on his chin during what his rep called a “brutal attack” at the club.

Brown, his model girlfriend Karrueche Tran and other friends “sustained several injuries,” Brown rep Jeff Raymond said. “Chris and his party are cooperating with New York authorities who are pursuing this incident further.”

A New York Police spokesman confirmed the department was investigating the incident.

Brown did not name names, but he did post a photo of his injury — which appeared to be a half-inch gash on the left corner of his chin — on his Instagram account.

What happened in the VIP section of the South Village club W.i.P. is unclear.

While Drake was there, his rep denied online reports that it was a clash between members of his entourage and Brown’s crew.

Rihanna on Chris Brown: I’m going to do what I want

“Drake did not participate in any wrongdoing of any kind last night at W.i.P.,” his rep said in a statement to CNN. “He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began. He did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property.”

Meek Mill, another rapper named in the online reports, also distanced himself from the brawl. While Mill’s rep declined comment to CNN, the artist tweeted “It wasn’t me.”

Brown, in a tweet of his own Thursday afternoon, appeared to support Meek Mill’s claim.

“Me and @MeekMill ain’t on that bulls**t. Real respect Real….”

Brown is on probation for another two years, until 2014, the result of his guilty plea to assaulting Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards.
