ANN CURRY SAYS TEARFUL GOODBYE TO ‘TODAY’ SHOW

A choked-up Ann Curry bid farewell to her post as co-anchor on “The Today Show” Thursday morning, finally confirming weeks of speculation about her departure from the popular NBC program.

Curry is clearly devastated by the company’s decision to oust her from what she’s called her “dream job” after nearly 15 years on the show and only a year in the anchor’s seat.

“This is not as I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch,” Curry, holding back tears, told TV viewers as she was surrounded by Matt Lauer and other “Today” show correspondents.

She continued, “For all of you who saw me as a groundbreaker, I’m sorry I couldn’t carry the ball over the finish line, but man, I did try.”

Lauer consoled a tearful Curry, saying she has “the biggest heart in the business,” and highlighted some of her best television moments and her personal warmth. “The way you care about people comes through in every single story you report,” said Lauer.

Curry also revealed that while she will be leaving her post on “Today,” she will continue to be a part of the NBC news team as part of NBC’s Olympics coverage and in a unit created specifically for her.

“They’re giving me some fancy new titles, which essentially means I’m going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing,” Curry explained on “Today.”

Curry’s departure leaves an opening in the coveted co-anchor spot, with Savannah Guthrie, who co-hosts the 9 a.m. hour of the “Today” show, seen as the most likely successor.

Ratings troubles have plagued “Today” after ABC’s “Good Morning America” recently broke the once-dominant morning news program’s long-winning ratings streak.

On the same morning that Curry announced her exit, “GMA” anchors Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos paid a classy tribute to Curry, who they called “the heart and soul” of NBC and ended their show with a round of applause for the veteran journalist.

ANN COULTER: THE MOST VILE WOMAN ON EARTH

There is politics and there are areas that just a no-go. I found this article a little while ago on Veracity Stew, and although it is one person’s opinion, I can’t help but agree. Young children are off limits when it comes to political battle.

Let me just start by saying that Ann Coulter is one of the most vile human beings walking the earth. The woman is so full of hate and spite, and her latest comments are indicative of the pure blackness that inhabits the area where a soul should be.

Speaking on Sean Hannity’s program Coulter suggested that President Obama’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, should become targets for the Romney campaign:

HANNITY: I don’t think that it’s ever funny to make fun of — like your buddy [Bill] Maher did — the children of Rick Santorum or Gov. Palin in the manner he did.

COULTER: That’s right, and they do go after the children. I just say that going after the children generally ought to be off limits. It has not been off limits for Republicans, though, conservatives have taken the Obama children off limits. So maybe it’s time to start imitating liberals in another way and go after the Obama children. By the way, that has been done grotesquely and viciously over the years by the left.

This coming from the side that feels it’s acceptable to call women sluts and prostitutes, from the side that spits on African-American lawmakers, and from an anchor, Hannity, who’s defended some of the worst and most violent hate speech against the president. Both Hannity and Coulter have defended this kind of behavior from people like Rush Limbaugh, who has already made a habit of attacking the Obama girls:

In June 2010, Limbaugh mocked Malia Obama, and in an apparent attempt to imitate her, asked: “Daddy? Did you shake down BP yet, Daddy? Are you going to make them pay, Daddy?” Limbaugh was referring to a remark Obama made during a May 2010 press conference, in which he said that Malia had asked him of the Gulf oil spill: “Did you plug the hole yet, Daddy?”

A month later, Limbaugh did it again. Affecting a child’s voice once again, Limbaugh mocked Malia Obama, saying, “Daddy, Daddy, did you plug the leak, yet, Daddy? Did you plug the hole?”

Ultimately, this is par for the course for Coulter. She’s attacked people like the 9/11 widows, she’s advocated for murder in order to intimidate liberals, and she is simply a horrible, atrocious, despicable human being.

THE ‘TODAY SHOW’ TO REPLACE ANN CURRY: DAMN YOU RATINGS!!!!

Here ‘Today,’ gone tomorrow! That is the story of Ann Curry’s career on the Today Show. Reports show that ‘Good Morning America’ has been kicking the Today Show’s ass in the ratings and in order to compete, Ann Curry has to get the axe. It won’t be easy to get rid of her though. She is not going out without a fight.

The New York Times reports that  Curry, who replaced Meredith Vieira as co-anchor on NBC’s morning show “Today”  last year, is on her way out, with a decision coming as early as next week.

According to the Times, NBC executives are negotiating with Curry in an  effort to find a different position for her, possibly as a foreign  correspondent. The Times’ Brian Stelter writes that Curry, who is reluctant to  give up the position that she assumed a mere year ago, has hired attorney Robert  Barnett, who represented Christiane Amanpour during her exit from ABC News’  “This Week,” to represent her in the negotiations.

“She got her dream job, and she doesn’t want to let it go,” one source told  the Times.

The negotiations reportedly began several weeks ago.

A spokeswoman for NBC declined to comment.

Should ‘Today’ drop Ann Curry?

One source told the Times that the network is hoping to complete Curry’s  departure by the Summer Olympics, which kick off in July, so the network –  which is airing the Olympics — can move forward to the Games with a clean  slate.

“They feel real pressure to get it done by the Olympics,” the individual  said.

If NBC does decide to replace Curry on “Today,” concerns about waning ratings  could be at the heart of it. In April, “Good Morning America” beat “Today” in  total viewership for a full week, the first time that “GMA” could claim such a  victory in 16 years.
