I was recently approached to become a spokesperson and spokesmodel for the BBOP and the Black Barbershop Collection. The collection is a line of sexy underwear for every man. Proceeds from The Barbershop Collection will go to supporting The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program’s efforts to raise awareness for diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and prostate cancer through screenings, education, and referring men to medical facilities.
I was honored to work with such an amazing cause which will educate men in our community about their help and ultimately save millions of lives. I have included in this post, information about the program and a way to get involved. Please read below to learn more about this program :-
About The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program (www.blackbarbershop.org)
The Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program, founded by Dr. Bill J. Releford, seeks to reduce health care disparities among African American men by screening for diabetes and high blood pressure in barbershops throughout the country and providing prostate cancer decision-making information. Since its inception, the program has screened over 30,000 men in over 500 barbershops inChicago,New York,Atlanta,New Orleans,Fort Lauderdale,St. Louis,KansasCity,Baltimore,Washington, D.C.,Los Angeles and many other cities. As results of this effort, the month of May has been designated as “Black Barbershop Month” for the entire state of California. The goal for 2012 is to directly reach over 1,000,000 men with the program’s message and screen over 100,000 for diabetes and high blood pressure.
