NGO IS THE 2008 HEAVYWEIGHT GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPION
06/25/2008
Born in the US and raised in Nigeria, Ngo Okafor returned to the States to go to college and seek his fortune. He found success on camera and has since become an established model and actor with advertising campaigns featured in magazines such as W, Vogue, Men's Health, Fortune and many more. As an actor, he has worked on several national and worldwide commercials including Hanes, Chilli's(with Evander Holifield) and FedEx; TV shows and films. Ngo has worked with celebrities such as Gisele Bundchen, Bridget Moynahan, Monique, Bob Costas, Mary J. Blige and Lil? Kim just to name a few.
Ngo had childhood dreams, as did many young boys, of becoming a heavyweight champion. At the age of 33 (which is considered old in boxing), he put his modeling and acting career on the line to make his dream of becoming a heavyweight champion come true. On April 18th, 2008, He aced his shot at glory at Madison Square Garden's Center Stage, impressing boxing experts and earning a victory by unanimous decision. This is a truly magnificent feat because he laced up his first pair of gloves just two years ago.
The story of Ngo's rise to Golden Gloves glory is very inspiring because it teaches us to pursue our dreams without fear. He did not allow the fear of a black eye or severe damage to his face, which is his source of livelihood, prevent him from achieving his dream. It further teaches us that we are never too old to dream. Even more importantly, teaches us that it is never to late to pursue our dreams. We can do anything, as long we put our minds to it.
Although Ngo is now the heavyweight champion, he is am not in a hurry to turn pro. He intends to enjoy this victory, continue to work and take the future one day at a time. At this point, he wants to focus on his acting career.
Ngo is very well spoken and will make for an ideal on-air guest. Interviews available upon request.
